Kelly's Directories Collection

Kelly's Directories

Kelly's Directories

Kelly & Co. was founded by Frederic Festus Kelly and later, in 1897, became Kelly’s Directories Ltd.

The county and in particular the town and city directories, give good basic information about the locale in question, but essentially, as far as family historians are concerned, also give details about residents and commercial enterprises. Here, you’ll find people listed by the streets where they lived, and also listed again, alphabetically by last name. This means that you not only have a chance of finding your own ancestor, but also seeing who their neighbours were.

Historic Records Limited has dozens of Kelly’s Directories, and in particular we’re fascinated by those volumes covering the period from the mid 1920s until the early 1940s. We have county directories for

  • Berkshire
  • Buckinghamshire
  • Cambridgeshire
  • Derbyshire
  • Durham
  • Essex
  • Gloucestershire
  • Leicestershire
  • Lincolnshire
  • Norfolk
  • Nottinghamshire
  • Northumberland
  • Oxfordshire
  • Rutland
  • Somerset
  • Wiltshire

plus various town and city directories. All directories have been digitised in colour and run through an OCR programme. In common with many of our collections this is an on-going project and we expect to significantly add to this list in the coming months.
